Miners go down 2 in a row!
Well the Miners started off pretty poor against the Warriors. They were under-manned with alot of players out due to injury and other commitments. The team was down but not completely out. The defence started strong in the first series turning the ball over with a great intercepion from #21 CB - Ben Hutchinson which gave our offense the ball. The offense tried to get it going only to give the ball away with a fumble. The defense though after playing well in the first series could not repeat their efforts letting in a score. They blocked the attempted extra point kick, score 6-0. The offense still struggled to get it going turning the ball over as quick as they got it. The defence also seemed to struggle stopping the outside run by the warriors and let in another score making it 12-0. The offence were starting to move the ball forward by some great running from #42 Scott Sunderland but failed to convert. The defence still struggled to stop the run this time it was up the middle with the Warriors #11 getting through untouched. The score was 26-0 going into the half.
The second half saw it going the Miners way. The offense drove the ball hard with some great running from #42 Scott Sunderland and #37 Shahid Malimar and some great passing from #8 QB - Sam Walker to his recievers #22 Dale Warren, #32 Franco Devivo and #45 Rob Zimmerman. They eventually scored a Touchdown with the Sam Walker,Dale Warren connection. The Oline protcted well with some great pass blocking and run blocking. Defence did well also, they almost held the Warriors scoreless the whole second half but due to tiredness and lack of fitness because of low numbers they let in a score within the last minute of the game. The score at the end was 32-6 Warriors way.
The positives was that though the Miners were under-manned, the rookies did well to step up and fill the gaps. A special mention to #36 - Trevor Kempster, #23 - Luis Millard and #17 - Ross Oliver who stepped up when they were called on. The signs look good for these guys who are just rookies but managed to stick it out against a very experienced Warriors side.
The negatives, basiclly it all comes down to trainning and teamwork. The Miners were in the redzone 4 times but could only convert once. The Warriors scored 4 times, so you can see how close this game could have been if we had converted all 4 redzone attempts. Also had a bad injury to LB/FB #33 Sam Wilson who had broken his arm in the dying seconds of the game. Hope you get back soon Sam.
Next week the Miners will face the Crusaders. Lets get down to training and work on getting better guys.
